Using our experience in documentary filmmaking and development communications, the team at Spectrum Media has produced several projects to support peace-building efforts around the world, including a television special in Jordan, promotional videos, and documentaries.

Documentary on Peace-Building
Spectrum Media is currently doing research to prepare for a 90-minute documentary on the power of the work being done by peace practitioners all over the world. Violence gets the world’s attention, but the slow, difficult work of leadership training and capacity building that leads to reconciliation happens below our collective radar. This documentary will demonstrate that there are viable alternatives to violence by showing the peace-building work being done in countries like Ireland, Israel, Ghana, Burundi, the Balkans and Timor.

Conflict Transformation Collaborative
Spectrum Media interviewed key participants at the first meeting of the Conflict Transformation Collaborative (CTC), a select group of professionals who have applied conflict reconciliation and peace-building techniques in places such as Burundi, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Ireland, Bolivia and Israel. To capture the spirit of the collaborative, we produced a short video featuring the closing remarks of the meeting, and we continue to work with the Mediators Foundation to produce more videos to promote the work of the CTC and inspire other peace practitioners around the world.

The Peace Practitioner’s DVD
Delving further into the CTC interview footage, we plan to create a DVD that would have inspirational and educational value for professionals in the field. With clips organized around certain topics, The Peace Practitioner’s DVD would present the stories, approaches, and insights the CTC participants shared in their interviews. As the CTC continues to grow, this DVD could become a perpetual work in progress as we add more insights and more thoughtful commentary to this valuable archive.

Partners in Learning
When the parents, teachers, and administrators at a Chicago area high school decided to improve their students’ learning environment, they enlisted Educators for Social Responsibility (ESR), a national leader in conflict resolution education. Spectrum Media worked with ESR to produce Partners in Learning, a short documentary that explores how the school implemented the “Partners in Learning” approach to reach and teach all students effectively.

The Culture of Peace: Journey to Kanafeesh
As part of “The Culture of Peace” program in Jordan, Spectrum Media worked with HM Queen Noor’s Foundation to produce Journey to Kanafeesh, a nationally broadcast TV special that teaches conflict resolution techniques to children using puppetry, music and dance. The program was based on the live performances and workshop activities that were created and performed by a team of Jordanian actors, educators, writers and musicians in Jordan elementary schools. Working in partnership with Jordan Television and the Jordan Ministry of Education, the Culture of Peace Program had the ability to reach 90% of Jordan's 4.5 million citizens, including more than half a million children between the ages of 10 and 14.
